Recycled art … great gift idea

May 29th, 2009, 10:20 am by jrich

I was in Father Fud’s Central Market next to Fudpucker’s this week looking at their mix of merchants when recycled art caught my eye. Local artists Charles and Misti Schneidewind of Recycled Art Company have wall space in the new market with their recycled creations on display. I was amazed to see what they can do with old license plates, bottle tops and wood. I’ve also seen local artist Linda Kernick show DMS students how she recycles her own art work. Recycled art is a unique gift idea for those who would appreciate that sort of thing. Better yet, it is something that can be done at home for free. Might not be a bad Father’s Day idea for the kids. Send them on a hunt to find materials around the house and turn the construction into an opportunity to spend time together.

Welcome!

Breaking the ice on a new blog is not something I’ve done before, so I’ll just dive right in.

Living green and healthy have become more important to me over the past few years. Environmental issues is about the only consistent interest I’ve held throughout college and as I’ve added to my whopping quarter century of life experience.

I’ve been surprised to learn what an impact our daily routines and priorities have had on our planet and our bodies. I’ve made gradual changes in my own habits to reflect more mindful living and will share some of that along the way.

Getting to the point of this blog, I wanted to create a space conducive to sharing tips on living green along the Emerald Coast. I hope it becomes a valuable information source for those interested in what others in the community are doing to live green and promote awareness on issues that impact public health and that of our surrounding ecosystems.

I also plan to cover events, green businesses and services, ecotravel and issues on and off the radar in our area. I would love feedback and ideas on similar topics. So, let’s get started!
